Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Bearing point is regularly washed down or sits in standing water — A grease with proven water washout resistance and good adhesion. Ordinary lithium soap grease emulsifies and the bearing runs on water within days. High speed small bore bearings on fans and motors — A lighter base oil viscosity and a lower NLGI grade. Heavy grease in a fast bearing churns, and churning is heat you never get rid of. Open girth gears on kilns and mills — An adhesive open gear compound applied by spray at the correct interval. Ordinary EP grease flings off the tooth flanks and the pinion scuffs. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Fit grease nipples with caps and wipe the nipple before the gun goes on. Most contamination in a relubricated bearing is pushed in through the nipple by the person doing the greasing, not drawn in past the seal.
