Wear and fatigue are two different failures.
Chain fails in two ways, and they need different answers. Fatigue is a breakage: plates or pins crack under repeated peak load, and the fix is a stronger chain — higher tensile rating, better plate material and pin treatment. Wear is elongation: pins and bushes abrade, the pitch grows, and the chain climbs the sprocket teeth until it jumps or destroys the sprocket it runs on. Renold engineers for these separately — case-hardened and shot-peened components for fatigue life, controlled pin and bush geometry with solid-bush construction for wear. The Syno range takes the wear problem further again, running where lubrication is impractical or would contaminate the product.
Pitch is where selection starts, not where it ends.
Two chains of the same pitch can be a decade apart in service life. After pitch, you specify for the failure you actually get: shock and peak torque point to a higher-tensile transmission chain; abrasive dust to the Sovereign range; wash-down, chemicals or outdoor exposure to Hydro-Service, stainless SDss or plated chain. Conveying duty is a separate decision again — attachment type, welded steel against solid bush, and whether the application is bucket elevator, drag, screen or escalator. Tell us the load, the environment, the lubrication regime and what failed last time, and we will specify to it.
