Axle Seals
Axle seals sit where the half shaft leaves the housing, keeping gear oil in the differential and out of the brakes. They run at wheel speed and take everything the road throws at the back of the hub. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering position Axle shaft exit from the housing; lip form Single or dual lip with dust lip; materials NBR, HNBR, FKM, PTFE for high speed; media Hypoid and synthetic gear oil. Executions include single-lip axle seals, dual-lip seals with dust lip, rubber-covered outer diameter executions, wear sleeve and seal kits, among others. It is specified most often into tipper and haul truck rear axles and trailer drive axles in fleet operation. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Axle Seals in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means tipper and haul truck rear axles, trailer drive axles in fleet operation, loader and dozer final drives, and equally tractor rear axle and hub assemblies, light commercial vehicle rear axles, bus and coach drive axles. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — position: Axle housing end, inboard of the hub. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Oil is appearing on the brake shoes or drum — Replace the seal and clean or renew the friction material. Contaminated linings will not recover and the vehicle pulls under braking. The axle is fully floating with its own hub bearings — Confirm which side the oil is meant to reach. Fitting a semi-floating seal profile on a full-floating axle either starves or floods the hub. The vehicle regularly wades to axle depth — A dual-lip seal with the outer lip greased on assembly. Water sitting against a single lip enters as the axle cools and draws in. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.
Pack the space between the lips with the same grease the axle would never see anyway. It gives the dust lip something to work with during the dry first minutes after fitting, which is when most new seals get their wear scar.
