In practice that means pivot bushes in tipping and lifting gear, guide bushes on press tooling and die sets, wear plates on chutes, gates and shear frames, and equally thrust faces on vertical shafts and lifting screws, linear slides on packaging and textile machinery, hinge and shaft supports on plant doors and dampers. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — forms: Sleeve, flanged sleeve, washer, flat strip. Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Motion is rotation inside a bore — A cylindrical bushing, and check the bore after fitting. A wrapped bush takes its final size from the housing, so it is the housing tolerance that matters. There is also load pushing along the shaft — A flanged bushing or a separate thrust washer. A plain sleeve loaded axially wears its own end face and the shoulder then digs in. Sliding runs along a flat guide — Strip stock cut and fixed to the moving face, so the wearing part is the one you can change without dismantling the machine. Order the shaft surface finish along with the bush. Composite liners want a ground, reasonably smooth counterface, and a roughly turned shaft will shave the liner away inside the first few hundred cycles.
