Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The shaft grows axially with temperature and must float at one end — An NU or N type at the non-locating position, letting the roller set slide on the flangeless raceway rather than loading the abutments. Axial location is needed in one direction only — An NJ execution, with an HJ angle ring added if the thrust can reverse briefly. The bearing must hold the shaft axially in both directions — An NUP type, remembering that the axial capacity of a cylindrical bearing is a fraction of its radial capacity.
