Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Thrust must be taken in both directions but the housing is short — The double outer ring layout, clamped in the housing bore. It concentrates two rows into one seating and stops the fretting you get between two separate cups. The shaft needs to be axially located while the outer rings float in the bore — The double inner ring layout with the cups free. Clamping both ends of a TDI in a hot housing removes its ability to expand and the rows will preload each other. The bearing is fitted onto a shaft with a heavy interference — Allow for clearance loss from ring expansion when ordering. A standard clearance class pressed onto an oversize journal ends up nearly at zero float before the machine is even started.
