You will find F01-08 customized Machined Guide Rings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means long-stroke press cylinders where the rod carries an offset tool, crane and material handler slew and outrigger cylinders, mill housing and roll balance cylinders in a rolling mill, and equally hydraulic hoist cylinders on tipping trailers, gate and penstock actuators at a power station intake, injection moulding ejector and core-pull cylinders. Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Heavy static side load with slow movement — A fabric-reinforced resin ring for its high compressive strength. A soft thermoplastic ring cold-flows under sustained load and the guidance gap opens up. Frequent short strokes with stick-slip at breakaway — Filled PTFE. It has the lowest breakaway friction, and stick-slip is what beats the seal lips to death on a positioning cylinder. Water-based fluid or a wet environment — Avoid unmodified polyamide. It absorbs water, swells and closes the butt gap, and the ring then jams the piston. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.
