Four-row Tapered Roller Bearings

Four rows of tapered rollers assembled with spacer rings into a single unit, built for very heavy radial load at low to moderate speed. Roll neck positions in rolling mills are the main home for this design. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering bore range About 100 mm to over 1500 mm; rows Four rows, two thrust directions; spacers Ground inner and outer spacer rings set internal clearance; cages Pressed steel or machined, matched to roller pitch. Executions include open four-row executions for chock-sealed stands, sealed four-row executions, executions with a loose inner ring fit for roll changing, inch series four-row executions, among others. It is specified most often into work roll and back-up roll necks in hot and cold strip mills and section and bar mill roll stands. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Four-row Tapered Roller Bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means work roll and back-up roll necks in hot and cold strip mills, section and bar mill roll stands, roughing stands and reversing mills, and equally continuous casting withdrawal and straightening rolls, heavy plate mill edger stands, wire rod block housings. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — load: Very heavy radial, moderate axial. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Necks are changed frequently and rolls must slide on and off by hand — A loose fit inner ring execution to suit roll changing. A tight neck fit on a mill roll turns every roll change into a heating job and the crew will start hammering. Cooling water and scale reach the chock face — A sealed execution with the chock seals renewed at the same time. Emulsion that gets past the neck seal saponifies the grease and the rows corrode standing idle over a weekend. The stand runs continuously with no window for manual regreasing — Oil-air or circulating oil lubrication piped into the chock, with the drain kept clear. A blocked drain floods the bearing, and churning heat will do more damage than the load. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Keep the rings and spacers in the same rotational relationship they came apart in — the alignment marks on the ring faces are there for that reason. Reassembling a four-row bearing with the spacers rotated changes the row-to-row setting and the stand will run one row hot.
