Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The strut must hold a heavy panel open in a wind — A seal set matched to the higher charge pressure. Underrated sealing bleeds down and the panel drops on someone working under it. The unit is mounted rod-up by the machine design — A seal arrangement with an oil trap at the rod end. Rod-up mounting starves the standard arrangement of its lubricating film. The application demands controlled damping at end of stroke — A piston seal with a metered bypass. Trying to get damping by tightening the rod seal only creates breakaway stick. A strut that has gone soft has almost always lost its oil charge before its gas charge. If a machine keeps eating struts, look at the mounting orientation before you blame the supplier. Send the designation off the failed part and we will confirm the SKF equivalent and stock position.
