You will find Hydraulic Seals in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means press, shear and baler cylinders in fabrication and scrap yards, mill screw-down and roll balance cylinders, excavator boom, arm and bucket rams, and equally hydraulic gates, penstocks and sluice actuators, injection moulding and die casting machines, furnace door, tilt and ladle cylinders in steel plant. Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Pressure peaks well above the working setting — A buffer seal ahead of the rod seal. Without one, spikes drive the rod seal against its groove edge and the lip extrudes into the clearance gap. The cylinder carries a side load from the linkage — Guide rings sized for that load, not just a heavier seal. Once the piston touches the tube, both the seal and the bore surface are finished. Oil temperature runs above about 80 °C in service — Materials rated for it — standard polyurethane softens and loses its extrusion resistance well before the oil looks distressed. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

When a cylinder comes in for reseal, record the groove dimensions and the extrusion gap before anything is cleaned up. A bore that has worn 0,4 mm oversize needs a different set, and no amount of new seals will fix it otherwise.
