Indexing Roller Units

Preloaded roller assemblies made to run against an index plate or cam track and hold a rotary station accurately in position. They combine the load carrying of a track roller with the running accuracy an indexing mechanism needs. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering configuration Roller assembly on a stud or bore mounting; preload Set on assembly, application specific; outer surface Hardened and ground running face; load direction Primarily radial with defined axial capacity. Executions include stud-mounted indexing roller units, bore-mounted indexing roller units, sealed and pre-lubricated executions, executions with crowned running surface. It is specified most often into rotary index tables on transfer machines in fabrication shops and turret stations on filling and capping lines. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

You will find Indexing Roller Units in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means rotary index tables on transfer machines in fabrication shops, turret stations on filling and capping lines, tool changer discs on machining centres, and equally carousel welders and assembly turntables, rotary dial feeders on component assembly benches. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — duty: Step-wise rotary indexing under load. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The station must repeat to a fixed angular position every cycle — Take the preloaded execution and match it to the cam profile in the machine. Any residual clearance shows up directly as station-to-station scatter on the finished part. The index plate is worn but the machine cannot be taken out for regrinding — Do not compensate by increasing preload on new rollers. The roller then follows the worn profile under load and both surfaces deteriorate faster. Cycle rate is high and the mechanism accelerates hard at every step — Consider the inertia and shock at each index, not only the static load. Selecting on the static figure alone leaves the roller under-rated and it brinells at the dwell position. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

These are application-engineered rather than shelf items. Give us the machine make, the index plate drawing and the cycle rate up front, because a dimensional lookup alone will get you the wrong preload class.
