Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Housing bore is already machined and cannot be altered — Work from the catalogue dimension series that matches that bore. Boring out a gearbox cover to suit a seal you have in stock destroys the interference fit that holds it. Sump temperature climbs past about 100 °C in service — HNBR or fluoro rubber rather than standard nitrile. Nitrile lips harden, lose spring contact and craze at the lip heel once run hot. The equipment is washed down or runs in a wet process — A dual-lip design with the auxiliary lip facing outward, plus a slinger where space allows. A single lip pumps water inward under a hose jet.
