Kingpin Seals
Kingpin seals protect the steering pivot bushes and thrust bearings on a heavy front axle. The joint barely rotates, so any water that gets in stays there and corrodes the bearing rather than being carried away. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering position Top and bottom of the steering knuckle pivot; motion Oscillating, low frequency; materials NBR and polyurethane, steel-cased or all-rubber; lubricant Lithium complex or EP grease. Executions include steel-cased kingpin seals, all-rubber pivot seals, heavy dirt-lip executions, thrust bearing shield seals. It is specified most often into heavy truck and tipper steering axles and mine and quarry haulage front ends. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Kingpin Seals in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means heavy truck and tipper steering axles, mine and quarry haulage front ends, trailer steer axles on long vehicles, and equally off-highway loaders and graders, bus and coach front axles, agricultural tractor front axle pivots. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — motion: Slow oscillation, long dwell. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The machine works in wet mud or slurry every shift — A seal with a heavy dirt lip that is preloaded by a garter or by its own section. Marginal lip load lets the joint fill with water at the first wading. Greasing is on a long interval or gets missed — An arrangement that vents old grease past the seal rather than one that holds it in. Trapped, degraded grease is worse than none. The kingpin bore shows corrosion pitting on strip-down — Replace or sleeve the pin surface as well. A new seal running on a pitted pin is a leak path with a fresh part number. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Fit these before the knuckle goes back on the axle beam. Trying to work a kingpin seal into place with the stub axle assembled is how the lip gets rolled under, and you will not see it until the joint is greased.
