Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Machine runs on fluid-film journal bearings — Eddy-current proximity probes reading relative shaft movement. A casing accelerometer sees very little through an oil film. A spurious trip costs as much as a real failure — Voted logic across redundant channels, so one faulty probe cannot bring the train down on its own. Axial position must stay within thin thrust clearance — Dual axial probes with separate alarm and danger settings. Thrust bearing failure gives almost no warning once movement starts.
