Matched Tapered Roller Bearings
Two or more single row bearings ground at the works so their ring faces sit at a common height. Clamping the set against a shoulder produces a known clearance or preload without the fitter measuring anything. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering bore range About 20 mm to 500 mm in common set sizes; set types Two-bearing and three-bearing matched sets; preset condition Clearance, zero, or light preload classes; face grinding Ring faces ground to a common height within the set. Executions include back-to-back matched pairs, face-to-face matched pairs, tandem matched pairs for single-direction thrust, three-bearing matched sets, among others. It is specified most often into bevel pinion heads in heavy conveyor and mill drives and extruder and pelletiser thrust ends in plastics and agro plant. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Matched Tapered Roller Bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means bevel pinion heads in heavy conveyor and mill drives, extruder and pelletiser thrust ends in plastics and agro plant, roll stand pinion boxes, and equally winch and hoist drum shafts in fabrication and port handling, vertical pump and mixer drive heads, machine tool spindle noses on larger workshop machines. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — supplied as: A matched set with a common set number. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Heavy thrust acts in one direction only, as on a single-helical or screw-feed shaft — A tandem set, which shares the thrust across both rows. A single row taking that whole load will show rib scuffing long before the raceways fatigue. The shaft must hold position under reversing load with no measurable float — A back-to-back set ordered with a light preload class. Ordering clearance instead leaves the pinion free to walk, and you will hear it as gear rattle on load reversal. The gap between the two positions is fixed by the housing and cannot be shimmed — A set supplied with its own spacer rings, quoted with the housing dimension. Cutting spacers in the workshop throws away the ground relationship you paid for. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.
Order the set against the actual housing and shaft dimensions, not the old part number alone. Sets are quoted for a stated clamp length, and a housing that has been skimmed during a past repair will change the setting by more than the whole preload band.
