It grips along the full sleeve, so the shaft is not pulled off centre the way opposed grub screws will pull it. Shaft grows lengthwise as the machine warms up — One unit as the locating side and the rest free in the bearing. Lock every unit and the thermal growth becomes axial preload that cooks the grease. Coal dust, sinter fines or fly ash settling around the unit — A taconite or multi-lip seal arrangement with a purge point. Standard contact lips wear a groove in the shaft within a season under abrasive dust.
