Power Transmission Seals

Seals that live on rotating shafts in drive trains — gearboxes, motors, pulleys, couplings and bearing housings. Their job is to hold the lubricant charge and keep the shaft entry free of dust, scale and water. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering shaft diameters About 6 mm to 4 000 mm across the family; common designs Single lip, dual lip with dust lip, cassette, flanged; temperature -40 °C to +100 °C with NBR, to +200 °C with FKM; dimension standards ISO 6194 / DIN 3760 metric series and inch equivalents. Executions include radial shaft seals, cassette seals, wear sleeves, track pin seals, among others. It is specified most often into bevel-helical gearbox output shafts on kiln and mill drives and motor drive-end covers on crusher and screen sets. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Power Transmission Seals in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means bevel-helical gearbox output shafts on kiln and mill drives, motor drive-end covers on crusher and screen sets, conveyor pulley shaft ends and take-up assemblies, and equally fan and blower plummer block housings, roll neck bearing arrangements in rolling mills, mixer, agitator and feeder drive shafts. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — motion: Rotary only. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Grease-lubricated bearing that is regreased on a schedule — Fit the lip facing the bearing so purged grease can escape past the auxiliary lip. Fitted the other way, a grease gun will push the lip off the shaft. Shaft runs eccentric or the housing is not concentric with it — A design with a rubber outside diameter and a flexible lip section, which tolerates more dynamic run-out than a rigid metal-cased seal. Fine dust or mill scale sits against the shaft — A dust lip plus a rotating exclusion device in front. Abrasive that reaches the sealing lip cuts a groove in the shaft, not just in the rubber. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Press a lip seal in with a flat drift that bears on the outer edge of the case, never on the lip side. A seal driven in cocked by half a degree will run one side of the lip hot and leak on that side only.
