Pulleys

Grooved wheels that carry the belt and set the drive ratio. Groove profile has to match the belt section exactly, and the hub system decides how fast you can change ratio or get the wheel off the shaft. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering groove sections SPZ, SPA, SPB, SPC and classical A to E; grooves per pulley 1 to 10 typical; bore forms Pilot bore, taper bush seat, QD seat; outside diameters Roughly 50 mm to over 1000 mm. Executions include taper bush v-belt pulleys, pilot bore v-belt pulleys, poly-ribbed pulleys, synchronous timing pulleys, among others. It is specified most often into draught fan drives on kilns and boilers and compressor and pump drive ends. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Pulleys in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means draught fan drives on kilns and boilers, compressor and pump drive ends, conveyor drive units in coal handling, and equally jaw crusher flywheel pulleys, sugar and jaggery plant mill drives, workshop lathe and drill headstocks. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — groove profiles: Classical, wedge, ribbed, toothed. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Pulley has to come off a rusted shaft inside a short shutdown — Taper bush mounting. The bush withdraws on its own jacking screws, whereas a straight-bore pulley needs heat and a puller you will not have on the platform. Small driver diameter on a high-power drive — Check the belt bend radius against the minimum for that section. An undersized driver cooks the belt core and it delaminates from the inside out. Rim speed above roughly 30 m/s — A dynamically balanced pulley in a material rated for the speed. Cast iron has a burst speed and it is not a guideline. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Keep a groove gauge in the toolbox. A pulley that looks serviceable can be well out of profile, and the only way to know before you fit an expensive belt set is to lay the gauge in the groove and hold it up to the light.
