Radial Spherical Plain Bearings
An inner ring with a spherical outside surface sits in an outer ring bored to match, so the pin can tilt while the joint still carries full radial load. Contact area is enormous next to a rolling bearing of the same size, which is why they suit slow, heavily loaded pivots. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering bore range About 5 mm to over 1000 mm; series Standard, wide and extra-heavy sections; sliding pairs Steel/steel, steel/PTFE fabric, steel/PTFE composite, steel/bronze; sealing Open, or lip sealed both sides. Executions include steel/steel executions with relubrication features, sealed steel/steel executions, maintenance-free steel/PTFE fabric executions, executions with a bronze sliding surface, among others. It is specified most often into hydraulic cylinder eye ends on scrap balers and presses and screwdown and balancing linkages in rolling mills. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Radial Spherical Plain Bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means hydraulic cylinder eye ends on scrap balers and presses, screwdown and balancing linkages in rolling mills, tipper body and tailgate pivots, and equally excavator boom and bucket pin joints, crusher toggle and adjustment linkages, sluice gate and penstock lifting pins. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — load: Heavy radial, static and shock. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Shock loading, and a grease point already exists on the pin — Steel/steel with hardened, surface-treated raceways and a relubrication groove. It absorbs impact that would cold-flow a polymer liner. Joint is buried in a structure and will never be greased — Steel/PTFE fabric, and derate for load. The fabric liner runs dry by design but its permissible contact pressure is much lower. Dust or slurry can reach the sphere — The sealed execution with lip seals both sides. Grit acts as a lapping compound in a plain joint and the clearance opens up within a season. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.
Specify the pin hardness and finish alongside the bearing. A soft or roughly turned pin chews the inner bore of a steel/steel bearing faster than the load ever will — the pin is half of the sliding pair.
