You will find SAF and SAW Series in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means belt conveyor head and tail shafts on imported plant, bucket elevator boot shafts in grain handling, cooling tower fan shafts, and equally vibrating feeder drive shafts, rubber mill and calender roll ends, pump and blower line shafting. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — shaft sizes: Inch, from roughly 1-3/16 in upward. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Wash-down, condensate or outdoor rain exposure — The SAW arrangement with its water-tolerant sealing instead of a felt-sealed SAF. Felt in a wet position holds water against the shaft. Shaft is plain bar with no machined seat — The adapter sleeve execution, and check the bar is within commercial tolerance over the full sleeve length. A bowed or undersize bar tightens unevenly and the sleeve then grips only in patches. Bearing must float to allow shaft expansion — The block without stabilising rings at that end. Rings fitted both ends turn thermal growth into axial load through the sleeve. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.
