Sensor Bearings
Bearings with speed and direction sensing built into the bearing itself, using a magnetised impulse ring on the rotating side and a sensor body on the stationary side. They replace a separate encoder, its coupling and its mounting bracket. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering sensing principle Magnetised impulse ring read by an integral sensor; output Incremental pulses, with direction signal on most units; supply voltage Low voltage DC, per unit specification; connection Integral cable or connector. Executions include motor encoder units, roller encoder units. It is specified most often into variable speed motor feedback on conveyor and fan drives and servo positioning drives in automated handling. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Sensor Bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means variable speed motor feedback on conveyor and fan drives, servo positioning drives in automated handling, materials handling rollers needing speed and jam detection, and equally packaging and process line drives, textile and paper converting machinery, electric traction and industrial vehicle drives. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — output: Pulse train, speed and direction. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. A motor already fitted with a shaft-end encoder keeps failing at the coupling — A motor encoder unit that puts the sensing inside the drive end bearing. Removing the flexible coupling removes the part that was actually breaking. You need feedback from a conveyor roller rather than from a motor — A roller encoder unit built into the roller end. It reads true material speed, which a motor-mounted encoder cannot do once the belt starts slipping. The drive controller expects a defined pulse count and signal level — The unit matched to the drive's input specification, confirmed before ordering. A mismatched pulse count is not something you can correct at the terminal box. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Route the sensor cable away from the motor power leads and earth the screen at one end only. These units are usually blamed for noisy feedback when the real cause is the cable sharing a tray with a drive output cable.
