Shock Absorber Seals
The rod seal and guide package at the top of a damper. It retains damping oil and the nitrogen charge while the rod strokes several times a second, and it does that against whatever the wiper let past. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering rod diameters About 10 mm to 30 mm; lip materials NBR, HNBR, FKM, PTFE-faced; gas pressure Suited to typical nitrogen charge levels; temperature -40 °C to 150 °C depending on compound. Executions include rod seal and guide assemblies, separate rod seals, wipers and scrapers, FKM executions for hot duty, among others. It is specified most often into cab and chassis dampers on tippers and haul trucks and bus and staff transport suspension units. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Shock Absorber Seals in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means cab and chassis dampers on tippers and haul trucks, bus and staff transport suspension units, rear monoshocks on fleet motorcycles, and equally trailer and tanker running gear dampers, damper remanufacture lines and test benches, seat suspension dampers on plant machinery. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — duty: High frequency reciprocation. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Damper is rebuilt in-house and refilled with nitrogen — A seal head assembly rather than a loose lip, so the guide bush and lip stay concentric. Loose lips fitted into a worn guide leak at the first hot cycle. Working temperatures climb on long descents — An FKM lip in place of nitrile. Nitrile takes a compression set once the oil goes past about 120 °C and never recovers its interference. Very fine dust, as at a crusher or a cement silo — A rod boot over the wiper as well. Fine dust behaves like lapping paste and gets between wiper lip and rod where a coarse scraper alone would push it clear. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.
Before the seal head goes on, run a fingernail up the full stroke of the rod. Any pit you can feel will pump oil past the lip, and no amount of seal quality will cover for it. Send the designation off the failed part and we will confirm the SKF equivalent and stock position.
