Line is cleaned with a caustic or chlorinated solution at pressure — Take the stainless housing with a seal grade rated for the chemistry in use. Standard nitrile seals harden and craze under chlorinated cleaners and then the joint leaks into the bearing. Product contact is possible if a bearing fails — Use the Solid Oil execution so there is no free grease to release. A conventional greased unit above an open product line is a contamination incident waiting for a seal to fail. The unit sits in a cold store or chiller room — Confirm the grease is fluid at the running temperature. Standard food grade grease can channel at low temperature and the bearing starves even though the housing is full.
