Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The stem is operated infrequently and sits static between cycles — A design with low compression set. A seal that takes a permanent set while parked leaks on the first movement after months of standing. Gas is the sealed medium rather than liquid — The gas-service execution. A liquid film helps an elastomer seal; without it, surface finish and contact stress must do all the work. Stem finish has been polished during overhaul — Restore the finish to the specified roughness band. Over-polishing removes the micro-texture the sealing element needs and can raise friction rather than lower it.
