Slewing Bearings
Large-diameter bearings that carry axial load, radial load and tilting moment on one raceway set, usually with gear teeth cut into one of the rings. They turn slowly, and they hold up the entire superstructure above them. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering diameter range A few hundred millimetres to several metres; raceway types Four-point ball, double row ball, crossed roller, three-row roller; gearing Internal, external or ungeared; raceway Induction hardened, with a marked soft zone. Executions include four-point contact ball slewing rings, double row ball slewing rings, crossed cylindrical roller slewing rings, three-row roller slewing rings, among others. It is specified most often into slew rings on stacker-reclaimers and shiploaders and EOT and portal crane slewing platforms. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Slewing Bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means slew rings on stacker-reclaimers and shiploaders, EOT and portal crane slewing platforms, ladle turrets and converter tilting drives in steel plants, and equally excavator and material handler upper structures, wind turbine yaw and blade pitch connections, tunnel boring machine cutterhead supports. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — load: Axial, radial and tilting moment combined. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Overturning moment dominates and build height is restricted — A crossed cylindrical roller or three-row roller design. Four-point contact ball rings run out of moment capacity long before they run out of axial capacity. The pinion drives from outside and the yard is full of dust — Internal gear teeth with a cover. External teeth on an outdoor slew ring in a mineral yard wear the pinion out first, every time. The structure under the bearing is fabricated, not machined — Check flatness against the bearing maker's limit before ordering. A slew ring bolted onto a wavy flange loses raceway life fast and no bolt torque cures it. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.
Set the soft zone away from the loaded arc. It is marked with a plug or a letter on the ring face, and if it finishes up under the boom in the normal working position the raceway will spall there and nowhere else.
