Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Bearing runs at a speed where grease churns and overheats — The oil execution, with the level set to the centre of the lowest rolling element at rest. Filling higher does not lubricate better, it only heats the bath. Machine sits on an inclined frame although the shaft is horizontal — Where the level gauge actually reads with the frame at its working angle. A level set on a flat floor reads wrong once the machine is tilted. Ambient is dusty and the oil will pick up contamination — A breather and drain arrangement so oil can be sampled and changed on condition rather than on the calendar.
