It is the cheapest way to buy a high load rating within a short pin length. Load arrives at an angle and the joint has to locate axially too — Angular contact spherical plain bearings fitted as an opposed pair. A single one takes thrust in one direction only. Load is essentially straight down a column that also tilts — Thrust spherical plain bearings, sized on projected sphere area rather than on the pin diameter to hand.
