Spherical Roller Bearings

Two rows of barrel rollers on a common sphered raceway. The design carries very heavy radial load and tolerates shaft deflection and mounting misalignment that would destroy a cylindrical or ball bearing. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering bore range 20 mm to 1250 mm; series 213, 222, 223, 230, 231, 232, 240, 241, 248, 249; bore forms Cylindrical (no suffix) and tapered 1:12 (K) or 1:30 (K30); cage Pressed steel, polyamide, or machined brass in heavy series. Executions include spherical roller bearings, cylindrical bore, spherical roller bearings, tapered bore, sealed spherical roller bearings, spherical roller bearings for vibratory applications, among others. It is specified most often into vibrating screens and feeders in mineral handling and crusher and hammer mill shafts. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Spherical Roller Bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means vibrating screens and feeders in mineral handling, crusher and hammer mill shafts, kiln support and thrust rollers, and equally ball and raw mill trunnions, conveyor head, tail and bend pulleys, fan shafts on ID fans running hot gas. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — load: Very heavy radial, axial both directions. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Long shaft that visibly deflects under load — Standard spherical geometry — it is the misalignment capacity you are buying, so do not substitute a cylindrical roller bearing. Vibrating screen or shock-loaded reciprocating duty — The dedicated vibratory-application execution with a stronger cage and larger clearance; a general-purpose bearing will fail the cage first. Abrasive dust with no realistic chance of clean regreasing — Sealed spherical roller bearing so the grease charge is protected for life. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

On adapter-sleeve mountings, drive-up is measured as a reduction in radial internal clearance — not as a nut angle. Check clearance with a feeler gauge before and after, and record it. Over-driven sleeves preload the bearing and it will run hot from the first hour.
