Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Spindle-class cylindrical roller bearings, ground to super-precision tolerances and usually supplied with a tapered bore so preload can be set by drive-up. They give a spindle very high radial stiffness and locate nothing axially. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering bore range Roughly 17 mm to 500 mm across the series; tolerance class ISO class 4 and finer (P4A, SP, UP); bore forms Cylindrical, and tapered 1:12 (K) for preload setting; cage Machined brass, or moulded polymer on high-speed executions. Executions include NN 30 k double row, tapered bore, NN 30 double row, cylindrical bore, NNU 49 k double row, tapered bore, n 10 single row, among others. It is specified most often into CNC lathe and turning centre main spindles and cylindrical and surface grinding machine wheel spindles. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Cylindrical Roller Bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means CNC lathe and turning centre main spindles, cylindrical and surface grinding machine wheel spindles, gear hobbing and gear grinding machine spindles, and equally horizontal boring mill quill and spindle bearings, roll grinder work head spindles in plant machine shops, high-speed test rigs and balancing machines. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — load: Heavy radial only. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Radial stiffness matters more than top speed — Double-row NN 30 K series. The second roller row lifts radial rigidity sharply over a single-row N 10 in the same envelope. Surface speed is beyond what steel rollers will take on grease — Hybrid execution with ceramic rollers and a polymer cage. Steel rollers at that speed skid on entry to the load zone and glaze the raceway. Spindle has to be re-preloaded on site, without a grinding shop — Tapered-bore K execution, so preload comes from drive-up rather than from regrinding a spacer to a new width. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Leave the bearing in its wrapper until the housing is clean and the shop is at working temperature. A two-micron particle rolled into a super-precision raceway shows up as chatter marks on the finished component, not as noise at the spindle.
