Double direction angular contact thrust ball bearings
A double-row thrust ball bearing with a 60° contact angle, machined so the two rows sit preloaded against each other. It locates a spindle axially in both directions while a cylindrical roller bearing carries the radial load. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering contact angle 60°, both directions; bore range About 17 mm to 200 mm; tolerance ISO class 4 (P4A) standard, finer on request; cage One machined or moulded polymer cage per row. Executions include BTM series, open, BTM a series with integral seals, BTW series for heavier axial load, 234400 series, universally matchable. It is specified most often into axial location of CNC lathe main spindles and grinding machine wheel spindle thrust location. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Double direction angular contact thrust ball bearings in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means axial location of CNC lathe main spindles, grinding machine wheel spindle thrust location, machining centre milling spindles, and equally ball screw support on heavy machine tool axes, rotary and indexing table axial location, spindle test and run-in benches. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — load: Axial both directions, little radial. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Coolant mist or fine grinding swarf can reach the bearing — Sealed execution. Once abrasive works between the balls and a 60° raceway the axial play opens up and the machine loses size control. Spindle must hold position under reversing cut loads — The higher preload class, with both rings clamped axially. Residual axial play appears directly as a step on the workpiece when the cut reverses. Speed is the limiting factor rather than stiffness — Polymer cage version with the lighter preload class. Heavier preload costs speed and raises steady-state running temperature. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

These arrive as a matched, preloaded assembly. Do not split the rings to wash them and never mix rows between two bearings — the ring faces are ground as a set and the preload goes with them. Send the designation off the failed part and we will confirm the SKF equivalent and stock position.
