The two take-up units on the same shaft must move together — Wind both screws equally and measure the frame-to-housing distance on each side. Tensioning one side ahead of the other skews the pulley and the belt tracks off within minutes. The frame is exposed to spillage and material build-up — Choose the wide-slot open frame and keep it cleaned out on the shutdown list. Material packed into a take-up channel stops the housing sliding and the next adjustment bends the screw. The tension is high and the shaft loading is heavy — Check the housing rating for the pull, not just the bearing rating. Take-up housings carry the belt tension through a thin section and the casting can crack at the guide before the bearing complains.
