Thrust Washers
Flat annular washers that take load along the shaft axis. They give a rotating or oscillating shoulder a sacrificial sliding face, and they are normally the cheapest part in the whole joint to replace. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering outside diameter Small pivot sizes up to a few hundred millimetres; materials Steel-backed PTFE composite, steel-backed POM, bronze; features Plain, tabbed, or with lubrication grooves; thickness Thin section, with a small wear allowance. Executions include plain composite thrust washers, tabbed executions with an anti-rotation lug, grooved executions for grease distribution, bronze thrust washers, among others. It is specified most often into vertical shaft shoulders on mixers and agitators and lifting screw and jack head thrust faces. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Thrust Washers in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means vertical shaft shoulders on mixers and agitators, lifting screw and jack head thrust faces, pivot pin heads on excavator and loader linkages, and equally turntable and swivel joints on light equipment, damper spindle shoulders on flue gas ducting, gate valve and penstock stem collars. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — load: Axial only. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The washer is free to spin with the shaft — A tabbed or keyed execution with a matching pocket in the housing. A washer rotating against both faces wears both, and neither of them is replaceable. The assembly stack-up is already tight — Put the washer thickness and its wear allowance on the drawing. Adding a thrust washer late usually means the retaining circlip no longer seats. Load arrives suddenly, from lifting or impact — Bronze rather than a polymer liner. A composite washer takes a permanent set under impact and the axial float then opens up. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Fit the washer with the liner facing the moving part, and confirm which face that is before assembly. Fitted the wrong way round, the steel backing runs on the shoulder and the joint sounds perfectly normal right up to the moment it picks up.
