You will find PD Series in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means snub and bend roller assemblies on belt conveyors, chain drive jackshafts on elevators, idler drum supports in packaging lines, and equally tensioner assemblies on drives with long belt runs, intermediate drives in rice and flour mills. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — construction: Single casting, two seats. Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Belt or chain pull acts sideways on the assembly — Foot bolts in fitted holes, or a location dowel. Clearance bolts alone let the whole casting creep under a steady side pull. Assembly runs continuously and greasing access is awkward — Sealed bearings in both seats, so the casting needs no grease line run to each position. Shaft is supplied plain and cut to length on site — Adapter sleeve mounting, and leave the shaft long enough for both sleeves plus the drive element. Shafts cut to a bare drawing dimension often leave no sleeve landing. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Assemble the shaft into the housing on the bench and turn it by hand before it goes out. Any tightness you feel then is a bore or sleeve problem, and it is far cheaper to find on a bench than up on a conveyor gantry.
