Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The joint runs at a large working angle — A seal with a wide sealing band and a positive dirt lip. Large angles push the cup harder against the seal on every revolution. Red-brown dust is visible around the cups — Replace the whole cross, not just the seal. That dust is fretting corrosion, so the needles have already brinelled the trunnion. The shaft cannot be greased in service — A sealed-for-life cross with a reinforced seal. Retrofitting a greaseable cross where no one can reach the nipple achieves nothing. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.
