V-ring Seals
An all-rubber ring stretched onto the shaft that turns with it, with a flexible lip pressing axially against a fixed counterface. It works as an exclusion device, flinging dirt and water away from the shaft entry. Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Existing lip seal keeps failing from ingress rather than wear — A V-ring mounted outboard as a flinger. It takes the dirt load off the lip and costs a fraction of the repeated seal changes. Peripheral speed rises above roughly 8 m/s — Axial clamping with a support band, because centrifugal force lifts the lip off the counterface as speed climbs. The counterface is a rough as-cast housing end — Fit a flat washer or machined ring as the counterface. A rough face wears the lip flat quickly and the exclusion effect disappears. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Fit the V-ring with the lip pointing away from the bearing so it throws contamination outward. Fitted the wrong way round it becomes a very effective way of directing washdown water straight into the housing.
