Wear Sleeves
A thin stainless steel sleeve pressed over a worn shaft to give a new sealing surface. It restores the counterface in minutes without pulling the shaft out for grinding or metal spray. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering shaft range Roughly 12 mm to 200 mm as standard, larger to order; material Austenitic stainless steel, work-hardened surface; wall thickness About 0,28 mm on standard sizes; surface finish As-supplied; no further grinding required or wanted. Executions include standard sleeve with removable flange, flangeless sleeve for shoulder positions, large-diameter sleeves to order, sleeve supplied with a matched replacement seal. It is specified most often into gearbox output shafts grooved at the seal position and motor shaft extensions worn under the end shield seal. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Wear Sleeves in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means gearbox output shafts grooved at the seal position, motor shaft extensions worn under the end shield seal, pump shafts and sleeves in slurry duty, and equally fan and blower shaft ends on boiler auxiliaries, kiln and dryer drive shafts with a cut track, crusher countershafts during a rebuild. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — purpose: Repair a grooved seal track in position. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Groove depth is within the sleeve wall thickness — Fit the sleeve directly over the groove after cleaning. Building the groove up with epoxy first only adds a layer that later breaks away under the lip. The groove is deep enough to collapse the sleeve — Fill the groove with a suitable metallic filler before fitting so the sleeve is supported. An unsupported sleeve dents at the groove and the lip follows the dent. The seal position sits well inboard of the shaft end — Order the sleeve length that reaches the track and use the correct installation tool. Driving a sleeve down a long shaft by hand tends to start it cocked. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.
Never dress the sleeve surface with emery to clean it up. The supplied finish is what the lip is designed to run on, and a few passes with abrasive cloth put a lead on it that will pump oil straight out.
