Withdrawal Sleeves

A tapered sleeve driven into the gap between a stepped shaft and a tapered bore bearing. Because it is pushed in from one side rather than pulled up by a nut, the bearing can sit hard against a shaft shoulder and still be removed later. SES holds the range as an authorised SKF distributor, covering shaft range About 25 mm to over 1000 mm; taper 1:12 standard, 1:30 on large bore series; series AH series metric, AHX and AOH executions for larger and inch work; mounting Nut or hydraulic nut against the sleeve thread. Executions include AH series sleeves for metric shafts, AHX series sleeves for inch shafts, AOH series sleeves with oil injection ducts, sleeves for 1:30 taper large bore bearings, among others. It is specified most often into crusher and mill shafts with machined stepped journals and gearbox output shafts carrying an overhung sprocket. Every part is genuine SKF through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Withdrawal Sleeves in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means crusher and mill shafts with machined stepped journals, gearbox output shafts carrying an overhung sprocket, rotary kiln and dryer support roller shafts, and equally rope drum and winch shafts on cranes, vibrating screen shafts with shouldered seats, roll and calender journals in paper and rubber plant. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — fits: Tapered bore bearings on stepped shafts. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the SKF range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The shaft has a shoulder and the bearing must be located axially against it — A withdrawal sleeve. An adapter sleeve here has nothing to pull against when the time comes to strip the bearing, and you will end up cutting it off. The sleeve size is large and mounting force by nut is impractical — A sleeve with oil injection ducts and a hydraulic nut. Oil injection floats the sleeve on a film and removes the risk of galling the shaft on the way in or out. The bearing has been on the shaft for years in a hot, dirty position — Fresh seals and a new sleeve, not the old one refitted. A sleeve that has fretted against the shaft will not clamp evenly the second time and the bearing will creep. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Before injecting oil, make sure the sleeve nut is backed off but still on the thread. If the sleeve breaks free under pressure with nothing to stop it, it will come off the shaft like a projectile and take the bearing with it.
