A cut-off wheel keeps cracking near the bore — New matched flanges of at least one third the wheel diameter, identical on both sides. Mixed or dished flanges concentrate clamping load on a narrow ring and the wheel splits outward from the bore. Fibre discs are curling or burning the plate edge — A ribbed backing pad one size below the disc, replaced once the ribs are worn flat. A smooth or worn pad puts the whole face into contact and the disc glazes. Coring above head height or into an occupied building — A water collection ring with a slurry vacuum, and an anchored base rather than a vacuum base. Vacuum bases lose grip on rough or wet slabs.
