Dressing

Tools that restore the cutting face and the form of a grinding wheel. Dressing trues the profile and opens the grain; without it a wheel loses its geometry long before it loses diameter. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering single-point stones Common carat weights from a fraction of a carat upward; rotary rolls Reverse-plated, infiltrated and sintered constructions; blade dressers Layered and impregnated diamond blades; dressing sticks Aluminium oxide and silicon carbide in various grits. Executions include single-point diamond dressers, multi-point and cluster dressers, diamond blade dressers, rotary diamond dressing rolls, among others. It is specified most often into cylindrical and surface grinders in the machine shop and gear grinding machines holding a profile. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Dressing in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means cylindrical and surface grinders in the machine shop, gear grinding machines holding a profile, centreless lines dressing both wheels in cycle, and equally roll grinding shops in steel plants, tool and cutter grinders, bench and pedestal grinders in the maintenance workshop. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — purpose: Truing plus sharpening the wheel face. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Plain straight wheel on general shop work — A single-point diamond in the correct carat size for the wheel width. Undersized stones wear flat within a shift and then rub the wheel face closed. A profile that has to repeat part after part — A rotary diamond dressing roll formed to the profile. Hand-dressing a form to a print is achievable once; it is not repeatable across a shift. Wide wheel where one stone would not survive — A multi-grain blade or cluster dresser, which exposes fresh diamond as it wears rather than wearing one point flat. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Set a single-point dresser at roughly fifteen degrees leaning in the direction of wheel rotation, and rotate the stone in its holder every few dresses. A stone left in one position wears a flat, and a flat dresser burnishes the wheel instead of cutting it.
