You will find Fibre Discs in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means removing weld reinforcement on structural steel, bevelling plate edges before welding, fettling and cleaning steel castings, and equally descaling forgings in a heavy engineering shop, preparing repair areas on earthmoving buckets and blades, removing hard-facing before it is reapplied. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — backing: Vulcanised fibre. Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Full shifts of continuous weld removal — Ceramic grain. It costs more per disc, the operator gets through far fewer, and does so with less pressure and less fatigue. Discs wearing only at the outer edge — Reduce the working angle. A steep angle loads the rim alone and two-thirds of the abrasive goes into the bin unused. Aluminium and other soft loading metals — An open-coat disc with a grinding aid. Standard closed-coat discs weld shut with soft metal within seconds. Fibre backing takes up moisture. A pack left open in a humid store cups within days, and a cupped disc only ever contacts on one side of the pad, so keep them sealed until the moment of use. Send the designation off the failed part and we will confirm the Tyrolit equivalent and stock position.
