Fine Grinding

A flat finishing process sitting between grinding and lapping, using fine-grit bonded tools on planetary or double-disc machines. It corrects flatness and parallelism to a level ordinary grinding does not reach. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering abrasives Diamond, CBN, silicon carbide, aluminium oxide; bonds Resin, vitrified, hybrid, metal; tool forms Full-face discs, pelleted discs, segment layouts; grit range Fine through to sub-micron. Executions include fine grinding discs, resin-bond diamond, fine grinding discs, vitrified bond, pelleted fine grinding tools, hybrid-bond diamond discs, among others. It is specified most often into mechanical seal and bearing washer faces and hydraulic valve plates and control blocks. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Fine Grinding in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means mechanical seal and bearing washer faces, hydraulic valve plates and control blocks, compressor and pump wear plates, and equally sapphire, silicon and ceramic substrates, gauge blocks and inspection surfaces, cutting-tool inserts before coating. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — removes: Microns, not tenths. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Moving off loose-abrasive lapping — Bonded fine-grinding discs of equivalent grit. Cycle times fall sharply and the shop stops handling slurry, but machine pressure has to be re-set from scratch. Hard, brittle material such as ceramic or sapphire — Resin-bond or hybrid diamond in a fine grit. Coarse diamond chips the edges even when the face itself looks correct. Finish acceptable but flatness wandering across a batch — Conditioning rings and disc dressing on a schedule. Flatness error here is a machine-wear problem before it is an abrasive problem. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Fine grinding is a pressure process, not a feed process. Raise the load to shorten the cycle and the abrasive glazes, at which point the removal rate actually falls — change the grit first and leave the pressure alone.
