Flap Discs

Overlapping abrasive cloth flaps bonded to a backing plate. They grind and finish in a single pass and wear back progressively, so cut rate stays steadier than a bonded wheel across the life of the disc. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering diameters 100, 115, 125, 150, 180 mm; bore 16 mm and 22.23 mm; grain Ceramic, zirconia alumina, aluminium oxide; grit range P40, P60, P80, P120. Executions include flap discs for steel, flap discs for stainless steel, flap discs for aluminium, trimmable backing flap discs, among others. It is specified most often into weld blending before painting or coating and surface preparation on plate and section. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Flap Discs in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means weld blending before painting or coating, surface preparation on plate and section, edge deburring after cutting, and equally rust and scale removal on maintenance work, stainless finishing where scratch pattern matters, blending on castings after fettling. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — operation: Grinding and blending in one step. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Weld must be blended flush and left ready to coat — A conical Type 29 in P60, then step to P80 — one pass with the right grit beats three with the wrong one. Stainless where the finish will remain visible — A contaminant-free zirconia or ceramic disc and a consistent working direction to keep the scratch pattern uniform. Disc loads up quickly on soft metal — An open-coat, anti-clog specification for aluminium and other soft non-ferrous work. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Flap discs are usually costed wrongly. Compare cost per metre of weld blended, not cost per disc — a ceramic disc at twice the price routinely does four times the work. Send the designation off the failed part and we will confirm the Tyrolit equivalent and stock position.
