Flap Wheels
Strips of abrasive cloth arranged radially around a hub or a shank. As each flap wears it exposes fresh abrasive behind it, so the wheel cuts at a steady rate and conforms to whatever shape it is run over. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering diameters 20 mm to 300 mm; widths 10 mm to 100 mm; grits 40 through 400; cloth Aluminium oxide, zirconia alumina, ceramic. Executions include shank-mounted flap wheels, unmounted flap wheels for mandrels, wide flap wheels for flat work, zirconia flap wheels for stainless, among others. It is specified most often into blending weld seams inside stainless tanks and vessels and finishing internal bores of cylinders and housings. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Flap Wheels in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means blending weld seams inside stainless tanks and vessels, finishing internal bores of cylinders and housings, cleaning and blending long fabricated sections, and equally deburring plate edges before painting, surface finishing on rolls and shafts in repair shops, preparing weld areas on pipework before inspection. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — construction: Radial abrasive cloth flaps. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The surface is inside a bore or a curved section — A shank-mounted wheel sized so the flaps just touch under light load. Oversizing bends the flaps backwards and only the tips end up working. Large flat areas need a uniform finish — A wide unmounted wheel on a mandrel rather than a hand disc. A disc leaves overlapping arcs that show through paint. The work is stainless and heat tint must not come back — A zirconia or ceramic cloth flap at reduced speed with light pressure. Heat produces the tint, and pressure produces the heat. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Flap wheels are the wrong tool for a heavy weld cap and the right tool for everything after it. Take the bulk off with a grinding disc first, because running a flap wheel at that job will get through a box of them on one seam.
