Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Stainless fabrication — A stainless-fill brush reserved for stainless only. A carbon steel brush deposits iron in the weld area and the job fails the ferroxyl test. Deep weld preparations and narrow grooves — A narrow two or three-row brush. A wide brush bridges the groove and never touches the root at all. Hot work close to the arc — A long wooden handle. Plastic stocks soften and distort near a hot weld and the brush is scrap by the end of the shift.
