Honing and Finishing
Abrasive stones or bonded sleeves expanded against a bore to correct roundness, straightness and taper while leaving a controlled crosshatch. Honing is what makes a bore hold oil and seal. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering tool forms Honing stones, sticks, sleeves, mandrels; abrasives Aluminium oxide, silicon carbide, diamond, CBN; bonds Vitrified, resin, metal, electroplated; bore range A few millimetres to well over a metre. Executions include honing stones, conventional abrasive, diamond honing stones, CBN honing stones, honing sleeves, among others. It is specified most often into hydraulic cylinder tubes and rams and engine cylinder liners in the diesel workshop. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.
You will find Honing and Finishing in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means hydraulic cylinder tubes and rams, engine cylinder liners in the diesel workshop, compressor bores and gudgeon pin holes, and equally injector bodies and valve blocks, gear bores after heat treatment, bearing housings on rebuilt gearbox cases. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — tool: Expanding stone or sleeve in a honing head. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.
Specify it against the duty.
Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Bore round but tapered end to end — A longer stone and adjusted stroke overrun. Taper is a stroke-length problem and no change of grit will touch it. Cast iron liner needing an oil-retaining surface — A plateau sequence — coarse, then fine, then a brush stage — so the peaks are cut away and only the oil-carrying valleys remain. Hardened or nitrided bores — Diamond or CBN stones in metal or vitrified bond. Conventional stones round off and stop cutting within a few strokes. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.
Filter the honing oil properly and change it on schedule. Swarf recirculating in dirty oil embeds in the stone face and scores the bore, and the shop then blames the stone for a fault the tank created.
