Internal Cylindrical Grinding

Bores and internal seats ground with a small wheel carried on a quill. Wheel diameter is limited by the bore itself, so spindle speed and quill stiffness govern what the operation can achieve. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering wheel diameters From a few millimetres up to around 100 mm; mounting Cemented or threaded onto steel wheel spindles; abrasives Aluminium oxide, ceramic grain, CBN, diamond; bonds Vitrified, resinoid, electroplated. Executions include internal grinding wheels, vitrified, mounted points on spindles, vitrified CBN internal wheels, electroplated internal wheels, among others. It is specified most often into bearing ring raceways and gear bores and spline seats after hardening. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Internal Cylindrical Grinding in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means bearing ring raceways, gear bores and spline seats after hardening, valve guides and injector bores, and equally die and punch bushes in the tool room, pump wear ring bores, bores in hydraulic manifolds and blocks. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — constraint: Wheel diameter capped by the bore. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Deep bore with a long quill overhang — The largest wheel the bore allows, on a carbide quill. Steel quills at that length flex and the bore comes out bell-mouthed. Blind bore ground up to a shoulder — A wheel dressed with relief at the back corner, so that corner does not rub and burn where the bore meets the face. Small bores below roughly 10 mm — Mounted points on a high-speed spindle, and a hard look at the coolant nozzle. At those diameters the wheel is starved long before it is worn. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Match the wheel spindle length to the job and use nothing longer than necessary. Every extra ten millimetres of overhang costs stiffness sharply, and that is why the same wheel specification performs on one machine and chatters on the next.
