Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Round part ground on its outside diameter, held between centres — External cylindrical grinding. If the part has no centres and comes in high volume, move to centreless — centre-drilling millions of pins is the wrong argument to win. Flat faces, slots and profiles taken to size — Surface and creepfeed grinding. Deep-cut creepfeed needs a soft open wheel with flood coolant; a hard surface wheel in that duty burns the part. Bores, seats and small internal diameters — Internal cylindrical grinding on a quill. Wheel diameter is capped by the bore, so spindle speed has to rise to hold surface speed — check the quill rating first. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.
