Coated abrasive cuts into the face and the flange then leaks on the next joint. Thick tough coatings such as epoxy or coal tar — A coarse extruded-filament disc, which digs into a soft coating that would otherwise clog a fine web solid. Disc clogging with paint inside a minute — A more open web and a lower grinder speed. Heat is melting the coating into the disc instead of tearing it away. These discs are rated far slower than a grinding wheel, and most angle grinders run far faster than they should. Use a variable-speed machine or accept that the disc will melt rather than cut — burnt nylon on the nose is the first sign the speed is wrong.
