Surface and Creepfeed Grinding

Flat and profiled surfaces ground with the wheel periphery. Conventional surface grinding takes shallow passes at fast table speed; creepfeed takes a deep cut at slow feed and grinds a full form in one or two passes. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering wheel forms Straight, profiled, segmented; diameters Commonly 200 mm to 500 mm; abrasives Aluminium oxide, ceramic grain, CBN; structure Standard through to highly porous creepfeed structures. Executions include surface grinding wheels, vitrified, porous creepfeed wheels, profile-dressed form wheels, vitrified CBN surface wheels, among others. It is specified most often into die and mould plates in the tool room and turbine blade fir-tree roots. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Surface and Creepfeed Grinding in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means die and mould plates in the tool room, turbine blade fir-tree roots, broach and form tool flats, and equally slotting and profiling of hardened components, machine tool slideways and gib strips, sealing faces on valve and pump bodies. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — modes: Reciprocating surface, creepfeed. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. Deep form ground in a single pass — A porous soft-grade creepfeed wheel with coolant delivered through shoe nozzles at wheel speed. A standard wheel in this duty burns the part immediately. Nickel and cobalt superalloys — Ceramic grain in a highly porous vitrified bond. Standard alumina welds to the alloy and the wheel loads solid. Thin plate lifting off the magnetic chuck — Lighter downfeed, a softer wheel and blocking around the part. The lift is grinding force, and a harder wheel only raises it. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

In creepfeed the coolant is part of the tool. If nozzle pressure does not roughly match wheel peripheral speed, the air barrier round the wheel throws the coolant clear and the part burns whatever the wheel specification says.
