Tile Drilling

Small-diameter bits for putting a clean hole through glazed porcelain, vitrified tile and engineered stone without cracking the piece. A thin diamond rim does the cutting at low pressure, cooled either with water or with a wax charge held inside the crown. SES holds the range as an authorised Tyrolit distributor, covering diameters 5 mm to 70 mm typical; rim type Continuous electroplated or sintered; shanks Round, hex, and M14 for angle grinders; speed Low, reduced further as diameter increases. Executions include wax-filled dry tile bits, wet-cooled porcelain bits, electroplated glass and tile bits, M14 tile bits for angle grinders, among others. It is specified most often into tap and mixer holes in tiled wash areas of process plants and fixing holes for handrails and fittings on tiled walls. Every part is genuine Tyrolit through official channels, with designation, specification and options confirmed against your duty before it ships — supplied from Kolkata and our branch network, with breakdown cover that does not sit in an inbox.

Where it runs.

You will find Tile Drilling in the parts of a plant where this particular duty actually occurs. In practice that means tap and mixer holes in tiled wash areas of process plants, fixing holes for handrails and fittings on tiled walls, drainage and pipe penetrations in laboratory and canteen floors, and equally cable entries through tiled control room plinths, fitting-out work in office and amenity blocks at plant sites. What links them is the duty rather than the machine name — diameters: 5 mm to about 70 mm. If your installation is not on that list it matters less than you would think: the operating condition decides the specification. Send us the load, the speed, the running temperature and the environment it runs in, and we will match it to the right execution in the Tyrolit range and confirm what is in stock.

Specify it against the duty.

Specification here follows the operating condition, not the catalogue. The tile is fully vitrified porcelain — A wet-cooled bit and a guide. Dry drilling of porcelain heats the rim quickly, and once the bond overheats the diamond pulls out within a single hole. Only a cordless drill is available and there is no water supply — A wax-filled crown bit in the smaller sizes. It carries its own coolant for a few holes, which covers a fixing job but not a floor. The hole starts near a tile edge or a corner — A jig with suction cups. Freehand starting skates the rim across the glaze, and the chip almost always runs to the edge and splits the tile. Where two of those apply at once, specify for the harsher of the two — under-specifying is what puts the part back on the bench a month later. Send us the duty and we will confirm the execution.

Ordering this from SES.

Begin the hole with the bit tilted, cut a crescent through the glaze, then bring it upright. Starting flat on a glazed face is what sends the rim skidding, and the scratch it leaves is on show for the life of the building.
